What is m epicranius?

The epicranius, also known as occipitofrontalis, is a muscle located on the upper part of the skull. It consists of two main muscle groups, the frontalis muscle (forehead) and the occipitalis muscle (back of the head), which are connected by a broad tendon called the aponeurosis.

The epicranius muscle is responsible for a range of movements such as raising the eyebrows, wrinkling the forehead, and moving the scalp backward and forward. It is also involved in facial expressions and plays an important role in communication and social interaction.

This muscle receives nerve supply from the facial nerve (CN VII) and the trigeminal nerve (CN V). During certain medical procedures, such as scalp reconstruction or forehead lift surgery, the epicranius muscle may be manipulated or modified for cosmetic or functional purposes.
